Bangalore, Jan. 10

The Chennai-based book and music retail chain Odyssey is expanding into newer markets across the country. By March, Odyssey plans to add 65,000 sq ft of space to its existing 80,000 sq ft. "We want to have at least 20 new stores by March-end," said Mr T.S. Ashwin, Managing Director, Odyssey India Ltd. Odyssey opened its first store in Bangalore on Wednesday and has identified land for two more outlets in the city. In two years, the retail chain plans to penetrate 20 cities, adding about five lakh sq ft at an investment of about Rs 125 crore. "Neighbourhood stores is the only way we will expand," said Mr Ashwin. At present, Odyssey has 13 stores in six cities — Chennai, Hyderabad, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Varanasi — and expanding soon in Pune, Vizag, Mumbai, New Delhi and the National Capital Region, Chandigarh, Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram.
