More flights from Mangalore to destinations in Gulf

Mangalore Feb. 4 Here is good news for Mangaloreans in the Gulf, as more international flights are likely to be operated from Mangalore airport to various destinations.

Flights to destinations such as Abu Dhabi and Muscat will be operated from Mangalore airport from February 15, in addition to the existing flight to Dubai.

At present, Air India Express operates three flights a week on the Dubai-Mangalore-Dubai sector. Air India Express began the operation on this sector on October 3, 2006.

According to the information available on the Web site of Air India Express, one more flight will be operated on the Mangalore-Abu Dhabi-Muscat sector from February 15. Flights on this sector will be operated on Thursday and Saturday. The introduction of flights in this sector will help the passengers to reach Abu Dhabi in 3.40 a.m. and Muscat at 5.15 a.m. This will help them save time and money.With the introduction of flights on the Mangalore-Abu Dhabi-Muscat sector, the total number of international flights operating from Mangalore airport will be increased to five flights a week from the present three flights a week. Air India Express operates flights on the Dubai-Mangalore-Dubai sector on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Sources in aviation sector told Business Line that the number of international flights from Mangalore would be increased to 12 after the implementation of the summer schedule in March.

According to the provisional summer schedule, flights will be operated to other destinations such as Doha and Bahrain from Mangalore, and the number of flights to Dubai from Mangalore will be increased from the present three days a week to six days a week.

It may be mentioned here that Mangalore is the second airport in the State to operate flights to international destinations after Bangalore. Sources said that there is good demand for operation of flights to various destinations in the Gulf.
