New Delhi, Feb. 5

The US estimates that India could be a $30-billion defence procurement market over the next five years, the former US Defence Secretary, Mr William S. Cohen, said on Monday.

"We believe that India could be a $30-billion market for defence-related products. This in no way means that this is what one country or company will pick in business here," Mr Cohen said.

Mr Cohen along with the former US Ambassador to India, Mr Thomas Pickering, are in India leading a US-India Business Council executive mission to Aero India, the air show that begins in Bangalore on February 7.

The delegation includes officials of Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Raytheon, United Technologies Corporation and Bell Helicopter.

The mission delegates will meet with the Minister for Defence and other senior officials during the air show.
