Bangalore Feb. 10 When it comes to hiring management grads, companies prefer to head to Mumbai and Kolkata.

A study of the MBA talent pool available in the country by Bangalore-based skills assessment firm MeriTrac Services found that B-school grads from Mumbai topped the hiring list with `their flashes of brilliance' while their peers from Kolkata displayed consistent performance across tests. Delhiites displayed `indifferent performance.'

IT cities Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai fell short of expectations but managed to maintain their competitive edge because of the large numbers of people available.

The report studied almost 800 fresh MBAs from Tier II and Tier II B schools across 16 cities to map and reveal the quantity and quality of talent available in the market today.

The study found that only 23 per cent of the management talent in the country is employable with most of them scoring low on communication skills. Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai account for 50 per cent of the MBA talent pool.

Recruitment strategy

This report is expected to help companies plan their recruitment strategy by helping them identify locations and regions with specific sub-skill sets in the discipline.

Mr Madan Padaki, Co-founder and Director, MeriTrac Services, said, "This is about raising an alarm. For instance, if you consider the area of plain abilities performance, almost 56 per cent of the management talent pool is employable but when combined with communication skills, it drops to two per cent."
