Bangalore Feb. 21 Low-cost carrier Air Deccan on Wednesday announced a tie-up with online travel portal Travelguru to provide budget hotel bookings and holiday packages to travellers. The tie-up will enable the airline's passengers select and make reservations in 2,500 hotels located in 160 cities — including over 1,500 budget/economy hotels — through its Web site.

Capt G.R. Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan, said, "The tie-up will serve as a one-stop window for affordable travel solutions for the discerning traveller. It is our constant endeavour to bring down the cost of travel by driving up ancillary revenue."

Mr Ashwin Damera, Founder and CEO, Travelguru, said, "The synergy from the tie-up both in terms of expertise and resources will create a unique product for the ever-increasing league of travellers in India." Hotel bookings done through the airline's Web site would be instantly confirmed.

Ancillary revenue

This partnership, Capt Gopinath said, would help the airline company's ancillary revenue creation. At present, the airline's ancillary revenue is 9 per cent of its total revenues. The target is to make it 25-30 per cent for the next three years, he said.

He added that as a step towards lateral integration, the company would also introduce travel insurance, credit cards soon. The airline had a market share of about 21 per cent in January, he said.

New flights

On the occasion, Capt. Gopinath also announced the launch of new flights connecting Mumbai and Mangalore, Kolkata-Dimapur, Bangalore-Bhubaneswar, Bangalore-Guwahati, Chennai-Agartala, Chennai-Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar, Bhubaneswar-Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, and Delhi-Udaipur. These flights would be operational from March 26. Another flight connecting Delhi and Jodhpur would commence operations on March 27.
