Kolkata Feb.22 eSys Technologies, the Singapore-headquartered subsidiary of the Chennai-based Teledata Informatics Ltd, has firmed up plans to set up a personal computer (PC) manufacturing facility at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.

The company is also working on plans to set up yet another PC manufacturing facility in South India to cater to the needs of the local market in the region.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Mr Neeraj Chauhan, Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of the eSys Technologies Group, said production at the Baddi plant would begin later this year and the facility would be equipped to manufacture 1.2 million PCs per annum.

The plant would manufacture the company's own branded PCs besides catering to the needs of multinational brands and `white boxes' or systems integrators. At present, the company is a major distributor for IBM, Microsoft, Apple and Intel in the Indian market. Funds required for setting up the Baddi unit would be generated from internal accruals.

Mr Chauhan said eSys Technologies already had four PC manufacturing facilities, located in Singapore, the US, the UAE and India. The proposed plant in South India would have a capacity to manufacture one million PCs per annum even as a plant of similar capacity would be set up in the Netherlands in due course

Logistics hubs

To address logistics and distribution issues, the company has put in place logistics and warehousing hubs in cities such as Delhi and Chennai. A third supply chain and logistics hub was proposed to be set up in Kolkata within the current calendar year. According to him, plans have also been firmed up to set up a TBO (Technology Business Outsourcing) facility at Chandigarh this year.
