WIP Labs launches new centre in Kolkata

To engage 300 people in next three years.

Kolkata April 21 The Denmark-based Wireless Innovation Platform Labs' (WIP Labs) hi-tech wireless telecommunications facility was inaugurated here at the Vedic Village Spa Resort at Rajarhat New Town.

The facility will engage 300 people over the next three years even as an amount of Rs 400 crore is proposed to be invested in the venture by that time.

The facility will be involved in the development of 4G technologies, starting from personal networks.

Development work on WiMAX and 3GPP-LTE technologies would also be undertaken, according to Prof Ramjee Prasad, Chairman of the Board, WIP Labs.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the WIP Labs facility here, Prof Prasad said WIP Labs' vision was to emerge as a premium knowledge bank for modern wireless and future technologies.

Core tech

The company's core competency is in 3G, WiMAX, WiFi and future generation wireless technology. It was WIP Labs' vision to generate intellectual property rights and lead standardisation.

According to him, the path to 4G would be reached by developing solutions and enhanced radio access technologies for WiMAX and 3GPP-LTE.

Strategic R&D

The focus would also be on strategic R&D and standardisation. WIP Labs plans to create a platform that would have global impact and lead the drive towards wireless information and multimedia communications in India.

WIP Labs would represent India in international standardisation bodies by ushering in home-grown technologies. The company also plans to create a portfolio of intellectual property rights and facilitate incubation of start-ups.
