"There has been growing interest in locating fab units in Hyderabad after the recent policy framework announcement. We are at advanced stage of negotiations with them."

Hyderabd April 26 Two more semiconductor fab companies were knocking at Andhra Pradesh to be part of the Rs 13,000-crore Fab City project coming up near Hyderabad.

"There has been growing interest in locating fab units in Hyderabad after the recent policy framework announcement. We are at advanced stage of negotiations with these companies and expect to close them," Mr CS Rao, Chief Executive Officer of AP Invest, claimed.

Support Infrastructure

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Rao said that the Composite Fab City project received the status of special economic zone (SEZ) on February 14, 2006, and efforts have been to finalise the necessary support infrastructure for this project.

Refraining to name the companies with whom they were in negotiations, Mr Rao said that it is the prerogative of those companies to announce. Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is being seen as one of the companies. "Once we finalise, we would be able to announce this," he said.

GO IN OFFING

"In couple of days, we will come up with a Government order that would outline various benefits that these projects would be able to avail from the project and covers tariff related to power and water, two major requirements for the semiconductor industry," he said.

NANOTECH PROJECT

Asked about the Rajiv Gandhi Nano Tech Semiconductor Company promoted by Korean developer Mr June Min, Mr Rao said that the project, which was allotted 50 acres of land, was awaiting financial closure.

In a month or so they are likely to finalise some of the key investors, the promoters had indicated.

All these days the delay was due to wait for the Central Government's semiconductor policy.
