Signs pact with 6 major operators for product vending

Yahoo Inc has introduced into the global market a faster, enhanced version of its Internet services. The services are now available for the US, Europe and the Asian markets.

It has also signed partnership agreements with six major mobile operators across Asia, representing a combined subscriber base of nearly 100 million. The six operators are Globe Telecom (Philippines), Idea Cellular Ltd, (India), LG Telecom (Korea), Maxis Communication Berhad (Malaysia), PT Telekomunikasi Selular `Telkomsel' (Indonesia) and Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan).

The partnership would focus on distribution of its mobile search service Yahoo One Search as also Yahoo Go 2.0.

Mr David Ko, Vice-President and General Manager, Connected Life Asia, Yahoo, said since January this year, a test version of Yahoo Go 2.0 has been doing its rounds in the US. The company would now deliver to its consumers in 13 countries namely Canada, France, Germany, Spain, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Italy, the Philippines, the UK, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.

He noted that the service would reduce loading time, and has ability to open more types of attachments, including PDF files, MS Word, Power Point and Excel documents and access Yahoo Mail folders.

The localised beta version of Yahoo Go 2.0 would be available in more than 200 different mobile handsets by the end of July and would touch 400 by the year-end.
