FSecure ties up with RCom, VSNL

Our Bureau

Bangalore, July 15 After PC vendors, telcos, mobile makers and ISPs have start bundling security software as it gives them the highest chance of sale, says FSecure, a Finland based security firm.

The firm has tied up with Reliance Communications and VSNL, which provide Internet (broadband) packages to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as consumers. Nokia also bundles F-Secure security software with its N and E series phones.

According to a Gartner market potential analysis, telcos are rolling out security services (firewall and antivirus) to SMEs along with broadband connections as it gives them the highest chance of sale and has also one of the highest gross margins. Telcos will offer security not only as a revenue opportunity but also to reduce churn, said Mr P. Venugopala Raja, Sales Director, India Region, F-Secure.

The company has tied up with Orange and T-mobile in other countries to offer a monthly subscription based security service to mobile users. It expects Indian cellular operators to also offer such a service soon. Users of smart phones and Bluetooth (those who use Bluetooth headsets, for example) will find this service useful. One example of a virus for mobiles is Commwarrior – it spreads using Bluetooth and sends MMS every three minutes without the knowledge of the user.
