Awards & Honours Dr B. Mishra gets Kidwai award
Hyderabad, July 18 The Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award for the biennium 2005-06 has been awarded to Dr B. Mishra, Project Director, Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR), Karnal, for his contributions to rice and wheat research in the country. The award carries an amount of Rs 3 lakh along with a citation. His main contributions are the pioneering work on breeding salt-tolerant rice varieties along with development and adoption of hybrid rice technology, and facilitating development and release of hig h-yielding varieties of rice and wheat for different agro-climatic zones. Dr Mishra is coordinating two largest network of rice and wheat that contributes nearly 80 per cent towards national food and nutritional security. His efforts led to the development of seven rice varieties and one rice hybrid which is currently occupying several lakh hectares of salt-affected area of the country, according to a release from DWR. — Our Bureau
