Telecommunications Marketing - Trends Highest-ever mobile subscriber growth in June
Our Bureau New Delhi, July 25 Indian wireless growth continues to hit the roof with operators adding 7.34 million new mobile users in June. This is the highest ever addition of mobile subscribers in a single month according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. With this, the country’s teledensity inches towards 20 per cent mark. The total numbers of telephone subscribers have reached 225.21 million at the end of June 2007 compared With 218.05 million in May 2007. The overall teledensity has increased to 19.86 in June 2007 endcompared with 19.26 in May end. The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & WLL (F)) base is 185.13 million at the end of June 2007. The wireline subscriber base, however, declined to 40.09 million at the end of June 2007 compared with 40.26 million at the end of May 2007. Market analysts however pointed out that with new technologies such an IPTV being launched in the country, fixed line may see a resurgence. The gross addition in telephone subscribers (mobile and fixed) during first quarter of 2007-08 is 19.35 million compared with 13.10 million during corresponding quarter of 2006-07 registering a growth of 47.75 per cent. Broadband connections touched 2.52 million by the end of June 2007 compared with 2.46 million in May registering a growth of 2.44 per cent. During June 2007, 0.06 million broadband connections were added. The Government is taking a number of measures to increase broadband usage including providing financial support to operators setting up infrastructure in rural areas.
