Infrastructure States - Kerala IT parks will be set up in all Kerala districts: Achuthanandan
Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 15 It is the policy of the Government to set up IT parks in all the districts of the State, the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, said here on Wednesday. In his Independence Day message, he said that steps have already been taken to set up the parks in Alappuzha and Kozhikode and preliminary measures to realise the plan for such parks in other districts has been initiated. He noted that the State was able to make a quantum leap in the IT sector. An agreement to implement the Smart City project in Kochi had been signed after dropping the conditions that were against the interests of the State and by retaining the Infopark within the public sector. As per the agreement, the project will generate 90,000 employment opportunities instead of 33,000, as stated earlier. The Government has also planned to develop the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram on similar lines and steps have been taken to establish a ‘Technocity’ there in 500 acres of land. New ventures
The Chief Minister pointed out that the State would not be able to make progress unless there was an increase in agricultural and industrial production and starting of new ventures. The Government’s efforts to protect and strengthen the public sector enterprises have begun to bear fruits with 24 companies having recorded profit in place of 12 companies a year ago, he said. The Agricultural Debt Relief Commission has started functioning and as part of extending assistance to farmers trapped in debt, Wayanad district has been declared as calamity-hit. Similar steps will be taken immediately in the case of other places that are facing serious agriculture-related crises. Job guarantee scheme
The Chief Minister said that the National Employment Guarantee Scheme had been implemented in two districts and sanction obtained to introduce the scheme in two more districts. The Government would put in efforts to implement the scheme, which would help solve to some extent the unemployment problem in the rural areas, especially in the agricultural sector, throughout the State, he added.
