UniverCell stores in Bangalore

Chennai-based mobile retailer UniverCell has launched seven stores in Bangalore. Keeping in line with its growth plan of achieving a turnover of Rs 700 crore by this financial year, UniverCell is looking at a pan-India presence in the next two years. The mobile retail chain plans to have 100 stores in South India by the end of September this year.

UniverCell, whichhas 42 stores in Tamil Nadu, sells around 40,000 handsets a month and boasts about15 lakh customers. The company posted a turnover of Rs 120 crore in '07 and is talking to private equity funds for investment, Mr Santish Babu, founder of UniverCell, said. "We are in an accelerated expansion phase and UniverCell will be in different locations in Karnataka by the end of 2007," Mr Babu said at the launch in Bangalore. -Our Bureau
