New Projects Agri-Biz & Commodities - Horticulture/Fruits & Vegetables States - West Bengal ‘Ascon Agro plant will create job opportunities for youth’

Our Bureau Kolkata, Oct. 7 The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, while inaugurating the 100 per cent export-oriented unit (EoU) Potato Flakes plant of Ascon Agro Products Exporters & Builders Pvt Ltd, a Pailan Group Co, at Dhaniakali in Hooghly district here, has said the project would create fresh job opportunities for the youth of the State. It would also benefit local farmers who mainly cultivate potato. The foundation stone for a meat processing plant of the same group at Dhaniakali was laid by Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries. Mr Apurba Saha, Founder Chairman of the Pailan Group, said the plant, entailing an investment of Rs 50 crore, would be able to produce close to 12 tonnes of flakes per day or 3,800 tonnes per annum. According to an official release by the Pailan Group, the project enjoys EoU/SEZ status, with ECBs through Natixis, Bank of France and UCO Bank. Technical knowhow has come from AFT France. According to Mr Saha, machinery has been imported from Ki Remkob V of the Netherlands, global players in food-processing equipment. The mechanised potato flakes plant, first of its kind in eastern India, according to the Chairman of Pailan Group, has been set up as a 100 per cent EoU under a global export agreement with AFT/PB Conseil of France. Mr Saha said the proposed goat meat processing plant would deploy lead-edge technology from Alloy Hardfacing & Engineering Co Inc. USA, and will play a vital role in sustaining the Pailan Group’s downstream goat rearing project, galvanising rural self-help groups in association with the zilla parishads. Mr Saha said the Ascon Agro Producers planned to invest over Rs 1,400 crore including Rs 50 crore for the potato flakes plant, Rs 250 crore for setting up another 100 per cent EoU multi-fruit processing plant and Rs 120 crore on a third 100 per cent EoU for buffalo, goat and sheep meat processing.
