Roadways Industry & Economy - PSU Logistics - Performance State transportation could be PAT +ve!
Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is at the top with net profits of Rs 132.89 crore. Uttar Pradesh figures at number two (Rs 39.72 crore) and Maharashtra at three (Rs 26.26 crore). Mamuni Das New Delhi, Dec. 4 Contrary to popular perception about the poor health of State road transport bodies, at least 10 such State-level undertakings are actually making profits while another six would have been in the black too, but for the outgo on taxes. These numbers are for the first quarter of 2006-07 fiscal, which is the latest data available with the Transport Research Wing of the Ministry of Road Transport. The profit-making list has some surprises too. While Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is at the top with net profits of Rs 132.89 crore, Uttar Pradesh figures at number two with Rs 39.72 crore and Maharashtra is next at Rs 26.26 crore. Other PAT POSITIVESOthers in the PAT positive list are Bangalore Metropolitan (Rs 25.23 crore), Karnataka (Rs 20.56 crore), Rajasthan (Rs 2.97 crore), North Eastern Karnataka (Rs 1.56 crore) and Orissa (Rs 69 lakh). Two State-owned companies of Tamil Nadu — TN STC (Kumbakonam) and TN STC (Villupuram) — also registered net profits of Rs 5.65 crore and Rs 12.18 crore respectively. The units that would have made profits but for taxes are Gujarat, North West Karnataka, Haryana, TN STC (Madurai), TN STC (Salem) and Thane Municipal Undertaking. Loss-makingThose with the highest losses were Delhi Transport Corporation (Rs 233.21 crore), Mumbai’s BEST Undertakings (Rs 65.61 crore) and Punjab Roadways (Rs 27.14 crore).
