Convergence TRAI submits final proposals on Internet Protocol TV Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 3 The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has submitted to the Government the final recommendations on providing Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) suggesting that both telecom operators and cable TV operators should be allowed to offer the service. The final proposals are in line with the draft recommendations released by TRAI in November 2006. The regulator said that since telecom service providers having Unified Access Service licence and Cellular Mobile Telephony Service licence are permitted to provide triple play service, they can also provide IPTV services without any additional fee as it is within the ambit of triple play services. ISPs having net worth of more than Rs 100 crore are also permitted to provide IPTV services. The regulator however said that telecom operators, while providing TV channels through IPTV, shall transmit only those channels for which broadcasters have received permission from the Government.
