UK setting up network for venture capital funds

New Delhi, Jan. 20 The British Prime Minister, Mr Gordon Brown, today said that Britain would set up a network for providing venture capital funds to Indian entrepreneurs.

Mr Brown, speaking at an entrepreneurship summit on Sunday evening, said that he hoped that the network would support those who want to start their own businesses, and help a new generation of entrepreneurs get access to capital. This was for both ideas in India which could be developed in Britain and ideas in Britain which could be developed in India.

Earlier, Mr Brown who arrived in the Capital on Sunday morning, said “It’s a pleasure to be here… and to be able to say that relationships between our two countries are stronger now than ever before, and are going to be strengthened in the years to come.” Mr Brown called for increasing cooperation between the two countries.

On his first visit to India since he took office, Mr Brown accompanied by his wife, said he was here to celebrate the doubling of British trade with India over the last five years. “I am looking forward to increasing cooperation in trade between our two countries and to bring prosperity to both of us,” said Mr Brown who is attending the fourth India-UK annual Summit.

Scheduled to meet Indian businessmen and entrepreneurs, Mr Brown is expected to discuss issues on climate change, security and higher education with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, during his two-day visit.

At an event to formally inaugurate an auto component facility and cultural centre of Lord Swraj Paul’s Caparo Group, Mr Brown accompanied by Sir Digby Jones, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Mr Marcus Agius, Chairman, Barclays, Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, Virgin Group, amongst the other British dignitaries, was described by Lord Paul as a person of very high integrity.
