Reliance Big Entertainment to sponsor Mumbai film fest

Mumbai, Feb. 22 Reliance Big Entertainment of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group will pump in Rs 1,10,00,000 for the 10th edition of the MAMI International Film Festival to be held at Mumbai in April.

The weeklong festival, which will showcase close to 150 films from all over the world, entails a total budget of Rs 1,35,00,000, according to Mr Govind Swarup, Managing Trustee, MAMI. The wide variety of films from 45 countries will be screened at seven screens in Adlabs Wadala, Metro Adlabs and Cinemax Versova.

Acclaimed director, Mr Shyam Benegal, unveiled the itinerary of the festival in the presence of filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker, Anurag Kashyap and Govind Nihalani. “This time, we are introducing a short film competition, Dimensions Mumbai, where digital films of five minutes duration are invited. The first prize is of Rs 1,50,000, the second prize of Rs 30,000 and the third prize of Rs 20,000,” said Mr Benegal.Mr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, Artistic Director, said that typically, it would cost anywhere around Rs 4 to 5 lakh plus copyright charges and printing costs to procure one film of Polish director Andre Wajda, whose retrospective will be presented during the festival along with Indian director Ritwik Ghatak.

Wajda’s film Katyn, which has made to the nomination of the Best Foreign Film for the Oscars this year, will make its Asia debut, by being screened the festival.
