UTV hopes to rake in Rs 25 cr from ‘Race’

Our Bureau

New Delhi, March 20 UTV Motion Pictures (UMP) is expecting its next thriller, the Abbas-Mustan movie Race to rake in Rs 25 crore in the opening week.

That’s the new benchmark that Jodhaa Akbar, Om Shanti Om and Welcome have set with their successful releases, says UMP, which is distributing the movie.

According to Mr Siddharth Roy Kapur, Director, UMP, the “tremendous buzz around the movie and the holiday weekend called for a wide release.”

“We have worked hard with the producers, exhibitors, partners, the media, brand associates to ensure Race gets an unprecedented promotion thrust and the widest possible distribution penetration worldwide,” said Mr Kapur.

The movie has seen a Rs 4-5 crore marketing effort, and will have about 550 physical and 500 digital prints release. This could be, said Mr Kapur, one of the biggest-ever releases.
