‘Encourage landline telephone use’

Madurai, April 6

The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has called for encouraging landline telephone service. In a letter addressed to Mr A. Raja, Union Minister for Telecommunications, the Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, said that the number of those who surrender the landline service is on the rise. The fierce competition from cell phone service providers with new and attractive announcements is taking a toll on BSNL. The higher rental charges and less number of free calls are affecting the retention ratio. The organisation should bring down the rental to Rs 100 per month and raise the free calls to 100 per month to make the landline service attractive. Further, new schemes that bring down the phone charges must be introduced, he suggested.
