‘Offer to Yahoo! a fair one’

Our Bureau

Mumbai, March 11 Microsoft has termed its offer to take over online search counterpart Yahoo! Inc as a ‘fair’ one. The company believes that the acquisition will assist Microsoft in its strategy to strengthen its foothold in the digital advertising space, according to Mr Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft, who spoke at a news conference here on Friday.

“We are committed to becoming a world-class digital advertising company. We will achieve this by continually driving market share from a search standpoint and from the standpoint of services such as windows live and office live. The proposed acquisition of Yahoo is a tactic in that strategy. We have made a very fair offer to their board of directors, and it is in their hands to decide,” said Mr Turner.

The Microsoft-Yahoo saga has taken an interesting turn with Microsoft threatening to launch a hostile bid for Yahoo on Saturday, if it would not get the deal.
