Maharashtra call centre cab drivers strike work

Our Bureau

Pune, May 19 The one-day strike call given by the Maharashtra Call Centre Chalak Malak Sanghatana (Association of Owners and Drivers of Call Centre) passed off peacefully.

Talking to Business Line, Mr Nana Kshirsagar, President of the Sanghatana, said about 6,000 vehicles under the Sanghatana had struck work in Pune demanding solutions to their demands.

The demands include back-to-back pick up compulsion should be cancelled, according to the Labour Act, drivers should get a minimum payment of Rs 7,000, abusement and vulgar language of administrative employees should be stopped, weekly off should be provided, drivers should get provident fund and ESI facilities. It may be noted that Pune city and its neighbouring areas cater to about 95,000 professionals working with BPOs. In a statement issued earlier, it was mentioned that no cab driver would ferry the BPO employees. “According to me, the strike is 100 per cent successful,” Mr Nana added.

Mr Navin Joshua, Executive Director, vCustomer, which has its BPO operations in Pune and Delhi, noted that there was a minor issue for an hour or so with the cab vendors. “It was solved amicably and the net result was no negative impact to employees and business,” he said. There are close to 160 cabs in total (in Delhi and Pune) which are being used to ferry the employees.

According to an official source of Zensar Technologies, there seemed to have been no problems. Zensar has about 500 employees in the BPO sector. “Cognizant has not been impacted by the cab strike. For employees, who otherwise commute by cabs, we have made alternative arrangements such as availing of tempo travellers from other service providers. We have been monitoring the situation closely and have not faced any problem yet,” an official spokesperson added.
