Strategy Variety - Entertainment & Leisure Ghatothkach slated for global release today K V Kurmanath Hyderabad, May 22 The legend of Ghatothkacha, the son of Bheema and Hidimbi in Mahabharata, continues to enthral children and adults. Keeping in mind the popularity of this mythological character, 11 producers from across the country have made films on him and all of them have been successful. “It still continues to attract the crowds. So, I wanted to make it into an animation formto address the new generation,” Mr Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, the veteran South Indian film director, told Business Line. Mr Singeetam was here in connection with the premier show of Ghatothkach — Master of Magic, the 100-minute 2D-3D animation movie. The movie is slated for a global release on May 23 in seven languages — Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and English. This is the second animation film by Mr Singeetam, who has directed films such as Pusphak, Appu Raja and Bhairavadweepam. His first animation film was The Son of Aladdin which was screened at several film festivals. Technical aspectHe has used the ‘Motion capturing’ technique which involves capturing a particular scene using 48 cameras for shooting a song. Mr Singeetam had started his career as an assistant director with Mayabazaar. “It has been a tough task because people usually compare this to the original Mayabazaar. I need to give a different treatment to the story we all know. I spent nearly 50 minutes on the childhood of the fun-loving Ghatothkacha, where I could innovate on the script,” he said. He had roped in software and animation experts from the Philippines, Canada, the UK, Chennai and Hyderabad. Asked whether there was an appetite for animation movies, he said it all depended on the success. “If there were four-five hits, I believe investments would start flowing in. This is an effort in that direction,” he said. More Stories on : Strategy | Entertainment & Leisure
