Pindar Set to consolidate operations; eyes new media

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, May 28 Pindar Set India, part of the UK-based diversified Pindar Set Group, engaged in creative services for Yellow Pages and Business Pages, is set to diversify into providing ad content for Web.

The Indian operation of Pindar Set has grown to over 900 people in Hyderabad and Bangalore, and possibly add about 200. It is time to consolidate and expand operations while looking at serving the changing needs of customers in new media and Internet, according to Mr Ponnanna B. Uthappa, Vice-President of India Operations.

Mr Uthappa told Business Line that Pindar Set, UK commenced Indian operations through McMillan. The company has started own operations for Pindar Set client generating content for Yellow Pages in the US.

“Apart from consolidating our presence in the Indian market, we have recently established a centre in the Philippines which would also serve as a disaster recovery site,” he explained.

Mr Uthappa said that they may look at supporting other languages, too, while the current focus remains English. Typically, on a single day, on an average thousands of advertisements are handled out of India.

CREATIVE PROCESS OUTSOURCING

“The area of creative work handled overseas is lately being referred to as Creative Process Outsourcing, distinguishing this as a separate stream from business process, knowledge process or other segments of outsourcing. There are scores of companies working in this area and it won’t be long before this gets recognised as a separate stream,” Mr Uthappa said.

About 45 per cent of employees are women and this has also helped the company keep its attrition level below 20 per cent, which is much lower than the general attrition levels in the BPO industry.

Contrary to general perception, reports suggest continued demand for Yellow Pages, he said.
