Yash Raj Films plans theme park in Dubai

Our Bureau

New Delhi, June 10 Move over Disneyland, Yash Raj Entertainment District now arrives in Dubai. The company will be creating a large scale entertainment district dedicated to the Yash Raj brand in Dubai.

So expect Kajol from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge instead of Snow White. Maybe. Or Moulin Rouge style Bollywood numbers. The company is’t sharing details yet.

Agreement signed

It has just entered into an agreement with Dubai Infinity Holdings. The partnership was signed by Mr Yash Chopra, Chairman, Yash Raj Films, and Ms Samira Abdulrazzak, CEO, Dubai Infinity Holding.

The Yash Raj Films Entertainment District will comprise theme park attractions, a movie palace, unique hotels and other Indian entertainment-based concepts.

“When YRF decided to venture into the theme park business, we found Dubai to be the most strategic location. Dubai has a booming tourism industry and aims to be the most visited destination in the world by 2015. Also, the UAE has a huge fan following of our Indian films and are watched and cherished not only by the South East Asian diaspora but also by the local population,” Mr Chopra said in a statement. The first phase of the YRF Entertainment District is scheduled to be completed by 2012.

“This is both an encouraging and exciting step for us. Bringing such a prestigious name into the UAE has been a strategic move as it attracts the core demographic of the country,” Ms Samira Abdulrazzak, CEO, Dubai Infinity Holding, said.
