Cinema Logistics - Courts/Legal Issues States - Kerala Film poster invites legal action for missing helmets Our Bureau Kochi, Aug 10 The Kerala High Court has issued notice on a writ petition seeking to direct the State Government to take measures to remove film hoardings depicting two-wheeler riders without safety helmets. The petitioner, Mr George John, Chairman of the Road Safety Project of the Rotary Club of Kalamassery, submitted before the court that the hoardings of the recently released Malayalam movie Minnaminnikoottam show the hero and heroine, along with other youngsters, riding two-wheelers without helmets. This, according to the petitioner, will give a wrong message to the public. Especially in Kerala, youngsters tend to follow the style and mannerisms of film stars. Mr Joy Thattil, counsel for the petitioner, pointed out that strict enforcement of Section 129 of the MV Act requiring two-wheeler riders to wear helmets in the State had brought down the death rate for two-wheeler accidents. Moreover, the Government machinery is in the process of achieving 100 per cent compliance for helmet use bytwo-wheeler riders. Under these circumstances, the film hoarding would send wrong signals. The Censor Board’s ban on exhibiting alcohol consumption and smoking in films would create a big impact and has been well appreciated by various organisations, he said. The petitioner also sought a direction to censure out the scenes showing the film artistes speeding away without safety helmets. More Stories on : Cinema | Courts/Legal Issues | Kerala
