Mediaone Global focusing on exhibition of films

R. Ravikumar

Chennai, Aug. 13 Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd is planning to focus more on the exhibition part of film business.

“We have acquired a cinema at Kanchipuram and are in talks with cinema halls at places including Arakonam, Arni, Tirupattur, Thindivanam, Villupuram and Panrutti (all in Tamil Nadu),” said Mr Suryaraj Kumar, Managing Director of the company.

The BSE-listed company is currently engaged in production, distribution and exhibition of films in India and abroad.

Besides, it also produces content for TV channels including ETV Kannada and Telugu, Raj TV, Surya TV and Kalaignar TV.

Film production

The company also has a subsidiary — Media One Global Ltd — in the UK. It has so far produced three films - Provoked , Ramji Londonwale and Sajni . Currently, it has two films under production: Dhaam Dhoom and Telling Lies.

According to Mr Kumar, as the media and entertainment business is set to touch $28 billion by 2012, the company is keen on expanding its horizon by producing and distributing more films in association with other producers and distributors.

And since exhibition is also a big business it is now focusing more on acquiring theatres in Tier-II and Tier- III centres in Tamil Nadu. “We will acquire and convert them into modern digital theatres to give better viewing experience to the audience,” he said. The company is also working on screening the film simultaneously in all areas using digital connectivity thorough satellite.

Mediaone has tied up with companies such as Eros and Ayngaran for distribution of films in India and abroad.

For the year ended June 30, 2008, it posted a net profit of Rs 5.2 crore on a turnover of Rs 94 crore, and earnings per share was Rs 3.59.
