Events States - Tamil Nadu ‘Govt must aim for equitable development’
Mr Gopal Srinivasan Our Bureau Chennai, Aug. 18 “Equitable growth is important for Tamil Nadu. Everything cannot come to Chennai. This is a concern for us,” according to Mr Gopal Srinivasan, immediate past Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council and Session Convenor – CII Connect 2008 Entrepreneurs Award. This year’s ICT (information, communication and technology) event of Tamil Nadu, Connect 2008, will deal in length the need for equitable growth in the State. The three-day event, Global Competitiveness and Equitable Growth – Driven by Innovation, to be held from September 11 to 13, will showcase the application of new formats and technologies to create a culture of innovation in the ICT industry, he told newspersons. On equitable growth, Mr Srinivasan said development should take place beyond Chennai. “We should go beyond the fly-over culture. The onus of performance is on the government. We need to create 500 cities across India, and 30 in Tamil Nadu,” he said. For instance, Larsen & Toubro is betting on the development of Coimbatore, he added. The event organised by CII in association with the Tamil Nadu Government will discuss issues such as emerging markets, culture of innovation, build capacity of growth, entrepreneurship service, equitable growth and Tamil Nadu@75 – an IT ecosystem in 2020, he said. Mr Srinivasan said this year, the CII Connect 2008 Entrepreneurs Award would acknowledge the “excellent” contribution made by successful entrepreneurs in the field of ICT. A jury will select the nominees who have made “invaluable” contribution to the growth of Indian ICT sector. “There are good entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu who have not been recognised. We need to reward them. Entrepreneurs are the freedom fighters of tomorrow,” he said. More Stories on : Events | Tamil Nadu | Industry Associations
