Hyderabad, Oct. 15 Fares on the India-Malaysia route could drop further, with the Malaysian low-cost airline, Air Asia, launching a daily flight to Tiruchiin the first week of December, the airline founder, Mr Toni Fernandes, said here on Wednesday.

“The airline will operate an Airbus A-320 aircraft on the route. The route has the potential for us to operate twice-a-day. We see India as a country of major potential and along with our sister airline, Air Asia X, we hope to be able to operate to 12 cities here, including flights to Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Madurai,” Mr Fernandes said.

While Air Asia will operate flights daily to Kolkata, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai and Coimbatore, Air Asia X will look to operate flights to the other cities. Hyderabad will probably be the only city to which both the airlines will operate, Mr Fernandes said, adding that the launch of flights to Mumbai will see one-way fares being offered at $ 100.

Air Asia X, a subsidiary of Air Asia, will operate the larger Airbus A330 aircraft and offer seating in both economy and premium economy, while Air Asia offers only economy class seating. Air India, Jet and Malaysian Airlines are the airlines that operate between India and Malaysia.
