Cisco talent initiative

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Oct. 19 Global Talent Acceleration programme (GTAP), Cisco’s initiative to create networking talent in emerging countries has been launched in India. Cisco already has GTAP running in Amman in Jordan and Johannesburg in South Africa.

Through the GTAP in India, Cisco plans to train engineering students at the CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork experts), the highest level of professional certification offered by the company, and also employ them as network consulting engineers at Cisco’s Technical Assistance Centre (TAC) in India.

Currently, Cisco India, which employs close to 4,500 employees, has 17 CCIE professionals according to Mr Leo Scrivner, Vice-President, HR, Cisco Services and Cisco Globalisation Office.

He said that the company plans to take the employee strength to 10,000 in 3-5 years time and also increase the CCIE pool ‘according to the company needs.’

GTAP is a 37-week programme that combines classroom training, industry interaction and work experience.

The programme is offered for both professionals with work experience and for fresh graduates.

Initially the students will be recruited for work at Cisco’s Bangalore Advanced Services Worldwide Service Provider. The first batch of GTAP, to be launched soon, will have 130 professionals.
