Comments on media ownership: TRAI extends deadline

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct.21 The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for comments on its paper on ‘Media Ownership’.

“Keeping in view the importance of the issue and the need for wider participation of stakeholders in the consultation process, TRAI has decided to extend the last date for sending comments on the same,” said the regulator in a statement. The paper will look into the need for, or limits to, cross-media ownership and aim at “competition, diversity and plurality of players, news and views”. It will, for example, clarify what kind of stake a television broadcaster can or should have in distribution platform. The deadline has now been extended from October 24 to November 10 on request from some stakeholders.
