Financial Performance Corporate Results - Telecommunications Web Extras - Human Resources BT revenues from India up 39% Our Bureau New Delhi, Oct. 21 BT (formerly British Telecom) on Tuesday said it has recorded a 39 per cent growth in its revenues from India in 2007-08 compared to the previous year. While the company did not give out specific revenue numbers, it said the Indian market potential is huge considering that the networked IT market is set to grow to €24 billion in 2010-11 of which BT’s addressable market is €4.4 billion. The company had earlier said it was targeting revenues of $ 250 million from India by 2009. “There are five primary customer trends driving opportunity for BT. The BPO market is expanding aggressively globally, foreign MNCs are significantly investing in India, Indian MNCs are emerging as powerhouses and the Government is investing heavily in e governance,” said Mr Sudhir Narang, Managing Director, BT India. BT has a long distance telephony licence in India and offers enterprise communication solutions such as managed network services and virtual private network. The company has over 300 customers in India.
BT has a Global Operations Centre at Gurgaon which employs up to 300 highly skilled professionals who run systems and processes for the various BT lines of business in addition to providing functional support to Group functions such as procurement, legal, finance and HR. This centre is part of BT’s global sourcing strategy where BT builds global centres of excellence in various geographies, according to local presence of talent and expertise. BT accounts for two per cent of India’s $50-billion IT and BPO exports and is planning to source more over the years. The company had earlier announced a major outsourcing deal with Tech Mahindra. In a bid to differentiate itself from other enterprise solution providers, BT has also expanded its professional services division in India. Professional services involve providing advisory services, best practices and best technology suited to the needs of their clients. Indian international long distance segment is heating up with many new players entering the fray. Large multinational telecom carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and Cable and Wireless are also eyeing a larger share of the enterprise market.
