Move to check animation training institutes

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Nov. 6 With a view to keeping tabs on the animation and gaming training institutes, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has decided to set up Board for Animation and Gaming Standards.

The board, comprising stakeholders from the industry and institutes, would prescribe entry level and exit level norms and give certification to the vocational institutes, based on their compliance.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Biren Ghose, Chairman of Nasscom’s Animation and Gaming Forum (NAGFA), said the forum had already held four meetings. The decision to set up the board followed criticisms from different quarters that the training institutes were making tall promises but were failing to deliver.

As a result, the animation and gaming industry was faced with human resources who were not industry-ready. A tag by Nasscom would give the institute credibility and help the students not fall in the wrong hands.

Earlier addressing the inaugural of the animation and Gaming India 2008, he said it was time for the animation and gaming industry to move on to the next level and ensure good standards and practices.

Dr Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman of the association, said that countries such as France, Korea and Japan had put in place similar mechanisms to keep an eye on the institutes.
