TV ad volume up 28% during Jan-Sept 08

Chennai, Dec. 15 There was a 28 per cent growth in TV advertising during January-September 2008 compared with January-September 2007.

According to a study by Adex India, a division of TAM Media Research, the food and beverages sector, with 13 per cent of the advertising pie, accounted for the maximum share of TV advertising followed by personal care/personal hygiene and telecom/Internet Service Providers with 9 per cent and 7 per cent share respectively during January-September ’08.

HUL and Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd maintained their first and second rank as top advertisers on TV across both the years January-September 2008 and January-September 2007. Pepsi Co was the third largest advertiser in terms of secondages.

Top categories

During January-September 2008, cellular phone services, social advertisements and corporate/brand image were the top three categories, the study said.

ITC Ltd, Vodafone Essar Ltd and Procter & Gamble recorded a positive shift to feature among the top 10 advertisers in January-September 2008 compared with January-September 2007.

The top three exclusive advertisers were Ganapati Herbal Care Pvt Ltd, Mahashiya Di Hatti Ltd and the Department of Women & Child Development during this period.

Social causes

Four of the top 10 exclusive advertisers had advertised for social causes on TV during January-September 2008.

Virgin Mobile, Vodafone Customer Care and TVS Flame were the top three new brands advertised during the period, the study added.
