Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 7 The Centre has sanctioned a proposal to set up an ICT Academy in Kerala. Confirming the development, Dr Ajay Kumar, Secretary-Information Technology, Government of Kerala, told Business Line that the proposed academy would be set up in Thiruvananthapuram. It will offer programmes that will equip people with skills required for careers in the IT industry. The ICT Academy will be set up as a private-public venture with an investment of Rs 14 crore. Of this, the Centre will give Rs 6 crore as a grant and the remaining amount will be raised from the State Government and private investors. Private investors will hold a majority stake in the venture, he added. Focus on soft skillsCourses offered by the academy will focus on enhancing soft skills and communication skills, he said. The emphasis, at least in the initial stages of the project, will be on offering ‘training the trainer’ programmes. Once the venture is operational, it will be used to train over 4,000 trainers, drawn from colleges across Kerala, as part of the State’s human resources development effort, he added. Kerala’s IT department has started talking to potential stakeholders, including private-sector training companies and education institutions. A special purpose vehicle to run the venture will be registered in the next few months, Dr Ajay Kumar said. More Stories on : IT Training | Kerala
