Web Development plans overseas centres

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Nov. 6 Kolkata headquartered IT manpower solutions provider and software development firm Web Development Company Ltd is planning to set up overseas offices in Singapore and China in 2010.

The new facilities will be floated as subsidiary companies in the respective countries, its Executive Director, Mr Harsh Hada, told Business Line.

“We have plans to expand in various growth markets such as Singapore and China during the second quarter of 2010 to tap the business opportunities that our client companies are expected to garner from the regions,” he said.

The company, through its IT staffing vertical, provides human resource support on a third party contract basis to frontline IT companies in the country. Its major clients include IBM, CapGemini, PWC, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Tata Technologies.

In China, the company plans to open an office either in Dalian or Shenzhen, Mr Hada said. “Dalian has a strong presence of Japanese enterprises and a number of our clients have started participating in their bids for contracts,” he said.

The outsourcing market looks bright for 2010, Mr Hada said, adding, “In this regard, our role as an IT manpower provider also gains importance.” The downturn has accentuated the trend of hiring manpower on contractual agreements from third party companies, he pointed out.

The cost advantage ratio of sourcing projects from India as against the developed markets is 2:10, he said. India currently supplies two per cent to the global IT workforce, he added.

The company has a workforce (under its payroll) of about 950 deployed in different IT companies. The workforce is expected to reach 2000 by 2010, he said.

The company has offices in Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. It would open its fifth office in Chennai shortly, Mr Hada said.

The company targeted a turnover of Rs 100 crore by 2012, he said. It has registered a turnover of Rs 21.5 crore as on September 30 in the current fiscal. It clocked Rs 31.5 crore turnover in 2008-09.
