Korean IT delegation in India

BANGALORE: Korean IT companies are keen on striking alliances with the Indian software companies. A delegation of nearly 13 different Korean companies is in India to seek alliances with software companies, especially in Bangalore and Delhi.

Speaking at a seminar, Mr Jung Taik Oh, Executive Director, Korea Information Society Development Institute, said software is a weak point in Korean IT sector, which is strong in manufacturing. Korean companies are keen to strengthen it by partnering with Indian companies, he said.

Korea has witnessed an explosive growth in IT demand and this was largely due to the Government's initiative, said Mr Jung Taik said. While the traditional strength in manufacturing had focussed on heavy engineering and chemicals, the new emphasis is on electronics and other IT. As part of its five-year plan for developing key technologies, the Korean Government is investing in six major areas including next generation internet, optical communications, digital broadcasting, wireless communications, software and computer, he said.
