Mr Ravi Chauhan, Vice-President, Nortel Networks India Ltd, having a word with Mr Todd McDole, Director Product Management, Nortel Networks, at the launch of new products for the evolving Ethernet LAN switching market in the Capital on Monday.

New Delhi , Aug. 11

NORTEL Networks on Monday launched its new `Ethernet' switches in the Indian market as part of a new `Service-centric networking strategy'.

It seeks to provide a new line of local area networks (LANs) that would enable voice, data and multimedia communications in a single converged network.

"Service-centric networks can support advanced, collaborative services such as interactive multimedia and IP telephony at a performance level equal to traditional telephony systems," said Mr Ravi Chauhan, Vice-President, India & SAARC, Enterprise Solutions, Nortel Networks.

Speaking at a press conference here, Mr Chauhan said the strategy supported the buying trends of customers who were looking to evolve their data networks to support new services.

The new strategy is part of Nortel Networks' `One network — A world of choice' vision to help enterprises realise bottom line benefits and gain competitive advantage through the flow of seamless information and converged communications.

The products being launched under this strategy include the Nortel Networks BayStack 425 switch, the BayStack 5000 series switches, the Passport 1600 routing switch and the Passport 8300 Ethernet switch.

Many Nortel Networks enterprise customers in India have deployed advanced data networks, selecting equipment that can act as a platform for future services. One of them is the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which merged its LAN, Wide Area Network (WAN) and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) into one core backbone based on Nortel Networks Passport 8600 Ethernet Switch.

This new merged network connects approximately 3,000 WAN routers to make multiple applications readily available to more than 10,000 trader workstations.
