Tata Motors sales up 67 pc in Dec

TATA Motors today reported a 67.3 per cent rise in total sales (including export) for December 2003 to 26,253 vehicles, as against 15,695 vehicles in the previous corresponding year.

Sales for the April-December period was up 47.5 per cent at 2,16,902 vehicles including export (1,47,022 vehicles for the year ago period), an official statement said.

Domestic sale of commercial vehicles for December increased by 54 per cent to 15,007 units (9,742 units). Cumulative sales for the April-December period was 1,04,675 units, up 44.5 per cent (72,436 units). M&HCV sales for the month grew by 55.3 per cent to 10,705 units (6895 units), while it was up 41.4 per cent for the first nine months to 70,584 units (49,922 units).

LCV sales for December grew 51.1 per cent to 4,302 units (2847 units), the same for the April-December period rising by 51.4 per cent to 34,091 units (22,514 units).

Tata Motors' domestic passenger vehicles sales for the just ended month was up 33.7 per cent to 7,245 units, the figure for the first nine months rising by 42.1 per cent to 97,219 units. Indica sales were up 3.4 per cent in December to 3,554 units and up 10.2 per cent to 56,624 units for the April-December period. Same for Indigo were 1,755 units and 19,593 units respectively, the statement said.

According to it, utility vehicle sales at 1,936 units in December showed a growth of 27.5 per cent with their total sales up 26.6 per cent for the fiscal to 21,001 units.

Exports for December increased seven fold to 4,001 units (533 units), with total exports for the fiscal touching 15,008 units (6,147 units).

Passenger vehicle sales in calendar 2003 showed a growth of 34 per cent to 133,206 units, the statement said. Indica sales for the year amounted to 77,913 units, a rise of 5 per cent, and that of the Indigo, 25,976 units. Utility vehicle sales for the period was up 18.4 per cent to 29,317 units.
