New Delhi , Dec. 29

THE Centre has allocated 34 lakh tonnes (lt) of sugar as the free sale quota (FSQ) for mills during the January-March 2005 quarter. This is below the 34.05 lt released during the same quarter of the previous year.

Inclusive of the 2.16 lt each of levy quota released for the three months, the total sugar available for indigenous consumption during the coming quarter works out to 40.48 lt. This is as against the 39.61 lt figure for January-March 2004, comprising 34.05 lt free sale and 5.56 lt levy sugar.

For January 2005, the FSQ has been fixed at 12 lt.
