Oilmeal exports down 9 pc

EXPORTS of oilmeal during April-August declined nine per cent to 11,33,158 tonnes from 12,40,236 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

Soybean meal exports declined to 6,19,225 tonnes from 7,76,000 tonnes, while rapeseed meal exports slid to 3,04,000 tonnes from 3,30,000 tonnes. Groundnut meal exports dropped to 57,675 tonnes from 1,01,075 tonnes.

Exports of rice bran extraction have revived after a long time and touched 41,083 tonnes compared with 11,561 tonnes last year, while castorseed meal exports jumped to 1,11,075 tonnes from 21,425 tonnes, mainly to Taiwan and South Korea for organic fertiliser.

Oilmeal exports more than doubled to 1,87,858 tonnes in August 2005 from 80,386 tonnes last year, according to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEAI).

Exports from Kandla port were reported at 7,01,300 tonnes (62 per cent), followed by Mumbai, which handled 2,09,875 tonnes (19 per cent), Vizag 1,10,400 tonnes (10 per cent), Bedi 75,675 tonnes (6 per cent), and Kakinada 35,158 tonnes (3 per cent).
