The Chinese President, Mr Hu Jintao, is scheduled to arrive here on Monday for an economic summit. The trip makes Mr Hu the first Chinese President to visit India in a decade.
During his three-day stay, Mr Hu is scheduled to hold talks with the President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and visit Agra and Mumbai. After India, Mr Hu heads to Pakistan where he is to sign agreements on trade, culture and education.
Economic summit
The summit comes at a time when trade between India and China is on the rise and projected to reach $20 billion this year.
India and China already have a deal in place to work together to secure energy supplies and there has been talk of an eventual free-trade area.
According to estimates by Assocham, Sino-Indian bilateral trade is likely to touch $50 billion by 2010.
The bilateral trade was at $13.65 billion in the first half of the year itself, an increase of 26.8 per cent over the same period last year, according to the estimates.
