To create 3.25-lakh new jobs in the State

Ahmedabad , Dec. 1

Setting the stage for the bigger show next month, the Gujarat Government on Friday entered into Memoranda of Understanding with 21 Information Technology and IT-enabled Services companies here to attract from them investments to the tune of Rs 11,067 crore and promising to create 3.25-lakh new jobs.

Inaugurating the "Vibrant Gujarat IT Summit-2006," precursor to the next month's major event, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Narendra Modi, reiterated his Government's resolve to make Gujarat an IT hub by the year 2010 and urged the IT sector to contribute in infrastructure development like distribution of power and Narmada waters, crop patterns and marketing strategy in the agriculture sector, among others.

He said with Gujarat emerging as an IT hub, 3.25-lakh new jobs were expected to be created in the State in the next three years. Satyam Computers' Chairman, Mr Ramalinga Raju and Tata Consultancy Services' CEO, Mr S. Ramadorai, also spoke on the occasion, with the latter mentioning about TCS' upcoming SEZ in IT sector here. The one-day Summit had been jointly organised by the Gujarat Government and the Nasscom. The Nasscom President, Mr Kiran Karnik, said that Ahmedabad had the potential to emerge as a world-class knowledge township.
