Software Review Columns - Netting a Catch Editing sounds
This week, we take stock of a bunch of tools to edit sound files. You can add, delete and mix files as you please. Some of the tools are shareware, but most come free of cost. Soliton Soliton is a sound editor that allows you to record and edit wav files. You can view a wave file spectrum, change the sampling rate and amplitude resolution, and also to apply some basic filters and effects.

Pocket Voice Recorder Pocket Voice Recorder is a small sound recorder that can record up to 10 minutes of audio from your microphone or any other input line available with your sound card. The recordings are automatically organised as messages and can be easily exported to standard wav sound file format.

Audacity Audacity is a free audio editor with which you can record sounds, play sounds, import and export wav, aiff, and mp3 files, and more. You can edit your sounds using cut, copy and paste (with unlimited undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customisable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Bass Boost, Wahwah, and Noise Removal.
