Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Error message
My PC configuration is a P IV with a 256 MB RAM. When I work on it a message box with the following message appears: Problem Opening C:\Windows\Temp." It prompts me to click on `OK'; on doing so, another message box appears with the message `missing decompressipon Xtra. To view this item you need the following decompressor. SWA Decompressor Xtra from Macromedia,Inc.(http://www.macromedia.com,contact support@macromedia.com. Please tell me what could be the problem and suggest a solution. - Avijit Biswas The reason for this problem is that the SWA Decompression Xtra is a Shockwave helper application that allows Shockwave audio to stream over the Web. This error message indicates that either this Xtra is not installed or it did not register correctly and therefore is not being found by the Shockwave plug-in or ActiveX control. To get rid of the problem, please try one or more of the following steps which will either install or force your Shockwave installation to recognise, the SWA Decompression Xtra. 1) Search to see if the Xtra was installed. On Windows, it is named "SWADCmpr.X32". If it does not exist, follow what is given in step 3. 2) Make sure the Xtra is in the correct location on your hard drive. On the Windows operating system, it should be in the location C:\winnt or c:\windows {gt} system32 {gt} Macromed{gt}Shockwave {gt}Xtras. If it is not in this location, please copy it into the appropriate folder as mentioned above and restart your computer. 3) If the SWA Decompression Xtra is not installed anywhere on your hard drive, download and install Shockwave 8 by going to the Shockwave download centre at: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download. If you still get the "You are missing the SWA Decompression Xtra" error message, please reinstall your browser and then reinstall Shockwave.
