Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Browser problem
My system has Windows 98 as OS. Till recently, I used to browse the Internet with Internet Explorer 5. But later on, I downloaded IE 6 and was using it successfully. But all of a sudden, I am not able to open the Net with this browser. A dialog box with the following message appears: "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". There were three buttons with "Debug", "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send" messages. There's also another dialog box that says, "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact program vendor". Please suggest a solution. S. Pratap You need to install the Internet Explorer "Service Pack 1" if you haven't installed it yet. It is the latest update released by Microsoft which has the solution for most of the issues. Let's first solve the browser problem. If you have recently installed any browser-related tools such as toolbars, tickers, download accelerators etc, please disable them or uninstall them. Most of the time, installing unauthorised third-party utilities and tools might not only cause such unsolicited errors but will also prey on your browser's bandwidth displaying ads and fancy buttons and finally making your browsing a misery. Use well-known and recommended tools only; reckless installation of unknown applications might even slow down your system. Next "Repair" your IE installation. You can do this by going to your "Add/Remove" icon in the "Control Panel", double clicking on it, and selecting the "Internet Explorer 6 and Tools" from the list. Now click on "Add/Remove". You will be presented with a dialog box with three options. Please select the "Repair" option; the wizard will repair and replace corrupt files for you. Once the problem is solved, apply the IE SP1.
