Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Choosing suitable processor
I am planning to buy a computer. I have doubts regarding the processor and mother board. Please tell me whether I need to purchase an AMD (3200+ or 2900+) processor or an Intel P4 (2.8 or 3.0 HT) Ghz processor. I also need to consider the cost factor. My usage of computer is for about 5-6 hours a day. I mainly use the computer for mechanical packages (such as autocad, proe, catia etc), for gaming and for songs and movies. I am interested in AMD 3200+ processor. Please suggest the processor and corresponding motherboard. If you suggest AMD, please mention which motherboard I need to use (specify model and company). My budget for the whole PC is around Rs 35,000. I would also like to know the difference between DDR and DDR2 RAM. Which is the better option? I am looking for an LCD monitor of around Rs 10,000-11,000. Which monitor would you recommend? (Please specify company and model). A. Krishna Chaitanya AMD 3200 is good or even better than its Intel counterpart. You can plug it on any board from Gigabyte or Asus with "NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400" chipset. However, if you are going to look at AMD 3200, it is not going to save you much. In fact, it might cost you more than the Intel chip. If you want a really cost-effective buy, then you need to choose the AMD 2800. However, with prices changing every day, you need to do a price scan on your local market and then decide. Regarding DDR2, it is the next generation of memories. What it means to you is better speed, performance and less power consumption. As for the LCD monitor, you can get a Samsung, 15", which will be a decent buy for this price range. Solutions by G. Rajah
