`Aura' of alloy

HINDALCO Industries recently launched a new set of exclusive 14-inch alloy wheels under its `Aura' brand for use in high-end luxury cars such as the Chevrolet Optra, the new Honda City and the Tata Indigo. The new wheel can also be used for up-sizing cars such as the Hyundai Accent, the Ford Ikon and the Mitsubishi Lancer for improved driving comfort and more stylish looks.

Hindalco claims that the new Aura alloys come with an exquisite hyper-silver paint finish that dramatically improves its visual appeal.

They have been rigorously tested by the ARAI (the Automotive Research Association of India). The new Aura 14-inch wheels have been priced aggressively at Rs 18,000 for a set of five.

In addition to improving visual appeal, the alloy wheels are lighter than steel cast wheels. Alloys ensure faster pick-up and superior handling (due to better impact absorption) besides increasing tyre and tube life, since heat dissipation is much better than the traditional steel wheels.

Alloy wheels may also improve fuel efficiency marginally, even while enhancing the stability of the car.

Aura alloys are more expensive than a few unbranded and cheap imported alloys available in the after market.

But the higher price may be worth it given the level of testing and certification that Aura wheels are put through. Aura alloys are X-ray and leak tested and come with a one-year warranty.

Aura alloy wheels are manufactured by Hindalco with technical assistance from Stahlschmidt & Maiworm of Germany.
