Tatas unveil Indicab for tour operators

LAUNCHING the new Indica V2 in Andhra Pradesh, Tata Motors has announced the rollout of its Indicab, an Indica variant for tour operators and taxi-cab owners.

The Indicab comes at a lower cost compared to the Indica V2 model and is available mainly in white colour to give it a distinct identity.

The company, which recently showcased the new Indica V2 and its station wagon model, Marina, at the Auto Expo 2004, expects to increase its overall numbers by about 15 per cent this year, according to Mr S. Krishnan, General Manager of Tata Motors.

Explaining the company plans, Mr Krishnan said the company has become the second largest seller of passenger vehicles in the domestic market and enjoys 15.7 per cent share of the total industry. While retailing four models across three segments — compact, mid-size and utility vehicles — with three of its models being among the top 10 selling brands in the country.

Mr Krishnan said that the company, which has a market share of about 24 per cent in the B car segment and 27 per cent in the C segment cars, expects to further expand the market this year. Indica V2 has over 2,50,000 customers.
